DETAILED DESCRIPTION of F&D W8 BLUETOOTH SPEAKER
As components are becoming more accessible every day, and the market for smartphone accessories is becoming more saturated, manufacturers have to do everything possible to distinguish their products from the total mass. When it comes to Bluetooth speakers, there are many changes in the world. While high-end models of established manufacturers are complemented by the support of assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, inexpensive alternatives are trying to highlight the interesting features of their range of functions and design. One such product, the F&D W8, has recently appeared in our testing laboratories. Is that your money? Let’s find out.
DESIGN AND CHARACTERISTICS
In terms of overall dimensions, the W8 is in line with the trends of the recent Bluetooth speakers. With a profile similar to a regular coffee cup, the W8 model has been designed to literally stand out against the general background. The cover has a transparent polygonal design, which is almost entirely made of plastic and transmits the colors that light up with the LED indicators on the speaker. Although this increases the attractiveness of the speaker, but it is not so durable and very sensitive to scratches and fingerprints. You can clean it often, and throwing it into a metal bag can negatively affect the appearance of the plastic.
The surface of the polygonal structure is brought to a high level. The same applies to the metal grille at the top, through which the 2-inch neodymium speakers transmit sound at 4 watts. You may notice some rough metal around the plastic part with the F&D logo and around the edges where the metal enters the rectangular shape of the top. At the bottom they have buttons and a drawstring hook.
Five buttons control the playback, pairing, volume and lighting modes of the W8. Although the rubber cover makes the buttons feel good, pressing the button still feels like clicking, and there is an audible plastic sound every time you press it. We also have a problem with these speakers, the buttons of which are located at the bottom, so you have to turn them up every time you want to do something as simple as turning down the volume.
A cable hook on the bottom is also a strange option, since it would be impossible to lay the speaker flat on the surface, since the already dodgy grip on the rubber bottom would be affected. The light switch allows you to switch between seven colors, which periodically darken, the eighth press switches it to the color change mode, and the ninth turns off the light completely.
The backlight is independent of music playback or pairing and allows the W8 to act as a relaxing bedside lamp. As we have said repeatedly, this does not affect the performance of the W8 in any way, although, frankly, a little help may be needed. In addition, W8 supports the Aux input via Bluetooth, as well as a micro SD card as an input.
