DETAILED TESTS OF THE 128 GB REALME 2 PRO
In the middle segment, we rarely talk about design. Even less common is the combination of high performance and beauty. This is usually one of the two, but not in Realme 2 Pro. This year, the new Oppo brand has had good success, it has released devices for all segments with high sales volume. Realme 1 sets the pace for the brand, and Realme 2 wins, but this is the Realme 2 Pro created by the brand this year, and it’s a little tempting. The Realme 2 Pro is equipped with a high-quality Qualcomm mid-range chipset at such a low price, which has a next-generation notch display and a laminated glass design. These features are usually limited to more expensive offerings, but Realme has managed to narrow them down to humble people.
The Realme 2 Pro is far superior to its belt, given the characteristics on paper. But with famous headlines like Xiaomi Mi A2, Honor Play and attractive newcomers like Moto One Power lurking behind the scenes, is this enough to satisfy an Indian smartphone buyer who understands the features? Let’s find out.
Design
As a brand, Realme strives to make the recent design innovations more accessible. It all started with the diamond-cut glass design in Realme 1, followed by a notch in Realme 2. Realme 2 Pro now has a valley-shaped notch, which the company calls a “dew drop notch.” ” It has the shape of a water drop, similar to the Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro belong to the same parent company: BBK Electronics. It’s easy to see how advances in design research and development affect all of the parent company’s brands. Due to the small cutout on the screen, the actual screen space is now much larger than usual, i.e. 90.8% of the body area. The phone also minimizes the glasses on all sides, which makes the panel really exciting.
The back of the phone is laminated in several layers, which gives it a glass surface. The main material appears to be hardened polycarbonate. Realme claims that it has heat resistance and scratch resistance, but is largely a point magnet. You get a flip-down cover to protect the USB port and headphone jack. The phone is also quite thick – 8.5 mm and bulky -174 grams, but not as bold as the Moto One Power. It is easy to hold, although the laminated layers do not stretch at the edges, which makes them quite rough. The screen is also slightly raised above the body, and I doubt it can suffer from a full frontal fall. However, Realme claims that the display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel on top. The two-chamber unit on the rear panel is also slightly raised above the body, which makes it vulnerable to damage in the event of a fall. Realme claims to have conducted a series of stability tests, but they are all modeled in the lab and may not reflect real errors.
Overall, the Realme 2 Pro looks much more advanced than a regular Xiaomi phone or even an Asus zenfone Max pro M1. Between this and the Nokia 6.1 Plus, I prefer the latter because of its compact and seamless design.
PERFORMANCE AND SOFTWARE
Realme 2 Pro manages to bring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset into the price range below 15 thousand. It was previously reserved for more expensive phones such as Nokia 7.1 Plus, Vivo V11 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A2. The competition from the base variant is mainly driven by the Snapdragon 636, and in this segment, the Realme 2 Pro dominates the rest in terms of performance. This would certainly be commendable performance, but like the Realme 1, the Realme 2 Pro also cheats the tests by constantly running the chipset at maximum clock speed when running a test application.
